Records relating to agricultural societies, 1820-1854 (bulk 1821-1834, 1846).

Series consists of statements of bounty payments and supporting documents filed with the state secretary. Later items consist of correspondence to the secretary concerning agriculture including such topics as state bounties, the annual agricultural report, and a reward for a remedy for potato rot, offered per Resolves 1851, c 18. St 1832, c 166 authorized county commissioners in Massachusetts to grant liquor licenses to innholders and retailers. St 1852, c 322 (revised by St 1855, c 215) established state-wide prohibition, forbidding the sale of all liquor except for medicinal, chemical, or mechanical purposes.
